TITLE IX Collaborator
Donnis Thompson, PhD.
Dr. Thompson collaborated with Congresswoman Patsy Mink in writing Title IX. Thompson was a former track star at her college in Chicago. She was a professor of health and physical education and recruited to the University of Hawaii where in 1961, she started a women's track and field team. She later became UH's first Women's Athletic Director. Professor Thompson provided the evidence Congresswoman Mink needed to end discrimination on the basis of gender at schools and universities.
